Part 1:
I have a tendency to leave errrrr... goofy pictures of TomJones and TheHoff in a coworker's office and office drawers, just for funsies, you know. I even had her convinced that the Germans celebrated something called Hoffmas, which occurs during the fortnight 90 to 75 days before Easter.
Part 2: Sting just released a great album called Symphonicities. I told my boss about the album, and I also happened to mention that I thought Sting was rather sexy.
Part 3:
I get to work today and, after a while, I open up my drawer and see this, which had me belly laughing, in tears for about 3 minutes before I regained my composure:
If you don't know what this picture comes from, you are very lucky. Dune is a terrible, terrible movie. Here are some clips to show you just how wonderful it is.
I very very almostly bought the item below during the Woot Off to send to this friend. Although, in the end, it's probably best that I didn't. I still don't think it's time that the World know the truth.
And Taiwan is still not free from the Mainland's shadow...
I wore my costume today at work, instead of tomorrow, the real Halloween. You've gotta wear your costume to school, right? Anyway, here are pictures, some are prep pictures, some are the final dealio. See if you can figure out what I am. Answer at the end. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Did you figure it out? I'm a stereotypical south Utah County chica. As you can see from picture #8, I am wearing a bumpit. What a terrible, terrible idea. But, in the end, it made my costume easier. Picture #3 shows off the blue and green eye shadow that I bought specifically for the day, as well. Oh, and the shirt and denim vest are DI specials.
About 10 minutes into class today, one of my students sorta stopped what he was doing and said, "I'm sorry, it's just so hard to take you seriously when you look like that." Another friend of mine couldn't look at me without laughing.
My sister was sure that I'd get a date out of it.
I think my favorite part of the whole thing was the fact that a lot of people couldn't tell whether or not I was really serious about what I was wearing. I think that's really saying something for Utah County, don't you?
So I just graduated this morning. I'm at work right now because I've got a lot to do. So instead of doing my job, I'm blogging fast. That's okay. Here are my announcements, in case you have seen the lovely camera/computer work of Brian and Julie Rae: First, the real one that we sent out: Next, this is the goofy pictured one that we decided to make into a prank one to send to my dad. We sent the real one a couple days after. He didn't even say anything. What a party pooper. Finally, this last one takes a bit of explaining. For my first Halloween my mom and dad dressed me as a ballerina. My mom even made the tutu. My dad had high hopes that he'd have a daughter who'd love ballet and would be all refined-like. Instead he got a baseball-loving, head-strong, ballet-hating tom boy. So this announcement is in honor of my first Halloween. If you look at the little picture in the middle, you'll see that even at 7 1/2 months I was completely hating on the idea. So, the feminine of Master is Mistress. Do you think it's a bit too crazy if I go by "Mistress Venom?"
**I'll post other pictures from the graduation later on and talk about it laters.**
So I got a hair cut yesterday just in time for graduation. I'll show you front and back. Then you can vote on the poll. Please vote in the poll at your right.
I don't mean to be totally irreverent, but sometimes there are hymns that make me laugh. Okay, not the hymns per se, but the events surrounding them. (usually, In Our Lovely Deseret anyone?) A few years back, one of our favorite 73rd ward members was conducting the closing hymn for RS, True to the Faith. You know the pattern for the hymn is No! No! Yes! Yes! right before the chorus? Well, right after the second verse, all of a sudden, there was this loud Yes! from the front of the room: While we know the pow'rs of darkness Seek to thwart the work of God, Shall the children of the promise Cease to grasp the iron rod? Yes!
I lost it, I could not regain control of my laughter thru the rest of the hymn. Heather, near the end of the final chorus, tried desperately to get me to behave and calm down. But there was no doing. I shook with laughter thru the prayer. It's a good thing that I can laugh silently. (Do you think that this story could go into that someone's book someday?)
It's like this hymn stalks me. At my seminary graduation, the organist pulled out all of the stops and blasted the chord for the NO! and scared us all to death.
Speaking of making people laugh during RS, a few years back, when Bepa was the Relief Society Princess, her birthday fell on a Sunday, so we took a present to church. I told her that she had to pass it around with the roll. The problem was that she also had to teach the lesson that day and had suffer thru watching every girl looking quizzically at the pen, shrug her shoulders, sign her name, and pass along the pen. I was at the back of the room that day--again laughing silently. Good thing Bepa's a good sport.
And, really, it's all about the youtube videos for this post:
On Thursday night we had an activity with our ward where some "life experts" came and answered questions that we had, like normal dating stuff and how to prepare ourselves for our lives and stuff. It was a fun night, but in preparation Emily and I came up with some possible questions to grandiose problems. I thought I'd give you a sampling:
I shower daily, but I still have an unpleasant body odor. I think this is why I'm not married. What can I do?
How can I reconcile my belief in Kabbalah and its mystical control of my destiny with my belief in the LDS faith?
Cannibalism. Why not?
What if it didn't stay in Vegas?
How can I overcome my addiction to streaking in crowded places?
I have nightmares about Jupiter. How can I overcome them? I've had them for 20 years!
My roommate chases me around with fish and shrimp, throwing them at me. What can I do for retribution?
How do you deal with a crush on a made-up personality like Danny Concannon, I mean it's not like I can break up with him or anything.
I tend to sit in the back of rooms or buses. I also tend to sit in the corner of places. I don't like to be in front of people. Better said, I don't like like people looking at my back. And I don't like not knowing what's going on behind me. There's probably some diagnosable psychosis there.
Case in point, today on the bus I sat in the back corner and mostly talked on the phone to Newt. But there's also another reason why I like sitting in the back of the bus. It's really funny to pull the little wire requesting a stop just as someone else has a hold of it to pull. It's always funny to see the reaction.
I've finally uploaded it to YouTube. Soon it'll be up on Google Video, too. I hid in the closet waiting for Heidi to come home. Listen for my accomplice Gretchen clue me in that Heidi was home. Then she totally played it off like she had no idea what'd happened. (To me) "How did it go?" (To Heidi) "What'd she do? Tell me about it." What do you think it is that Heidi says after "Don't ever do that again." Because we've been trying to figure this out forever.
I didn't do this one. You might think that I'm lying, but I'm not. I'm extremely frustrated that I didn't do this prank. Someone wrote Vegas or Bust on the back of Gretchen's car (sorry, I don't have pictures because she quickly washed it off). But then a couple of days later someone decorated Andy's Jeep. Of this I do have pictures:
Now if you're confused about the initials here, Andy's middle name is Whipple and Gretchen doesn't have a middle name. Although it appears like the culprit seems to have an affinity for Vegas...
And maybe in homage to AWS and GR's new-found love, I'm posting a video that has a song that I really like. There's nothing to the video but a picture so that the person could post a great song on YouTube. It's by Ryan Adams and it's called Desire.
