I write like...

So there's this website* that purportedly analyzes your writing and tells you who you write like:
http://iwl.me/
So I dropped in various bits of my blog, this entry and that. I tried it over and over and over. So who do I most commonly write like? Stephen King. arg. Who do I most commonly write like #2? Dan Brown. pathetic.

This makes me so sad.
I did get one James Joyce, though. There is hope.

I wonder about my thesis? I'll have to try an excerpt later on.

*Someone posted about this on Facebook, and I can't remember who. But whoever you are, credit where credit is mysteriously due.

Just look at it this way, maybe it's saying that your blog is fast-paced and mysterious. I wonder what it uses to make this decision? Word choice, word/sentence length or variation? I wonder if you use your thesis if it will say you write like Borges or something awesome.

I'm going to do the thesis analysis right now, chapter by chapter. So far I've got Edgar Allan Poe for the Introduction. hmmm

LOL. I love it. You should be complimented, I found (writing) my thesis to be very much like a horror story and all I got was Joyce :). Ha.

By the way, I've listened to it repeatedly but I can't figure out the first part of what the leprechaun says in the Joyce link. You'd think I'd have enough practice with the Irish accent.

"Point at the XXXXX and you might get lucky." That's as far as I got. I'm not completely sure.

Sounds ominous or creepy.

Thanks for showing me the writing site. It was fun. I'm seeing a trend towards the thriller genre. Do you read Lovecraft, Poe, or King?

Vanessa Swenson said...

Definitely not King. Blech.
Poe is pretty good, but he creeps me out. Lovecraft I do not know.

Poe is the only one I've read.

I got four different results and the only one I recognized was James Joyce.

I just did my blog. I got a different writer for each blog. Haha. So I'm inconsistent? From most recent to farthest back (on my first page): David Foster Wallace, James Joyce, Isaac Asimov, Leo Tolstoy, and Cory Doctorow. Wow. I write like a man. Got it! :)

I'm starting to wonder how many authors are really stored in their "write-like" memory bank.

At first I was thinking it was only authors that paid the site to have their stuff linked to in Amazon, but then Joyce, so that doesn't work, unless he came back from the dead to request it :)

Maybe it was written into his will?
