I unintentionally made things very awkward in my class yesterday. We were talking about how Portuguese has a nifty trick at describing people in certain semantic situations. So I did a literal translation of a bit of it:
"My mom is with heat."
Yipes. Awkward.
So I correct it with what Portuguese speakers mean:
"My mom is hot."
Oh man.
MAN! That's an awesome error....wish I could have been there for the red-faced laugh-age. ;-)
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the looks of shocked horror on the faces of half the class.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to revisit it on the DVD in Heaven.
HA!! Kind of like the time I was translating and asked the lady if she was caliente. I was supposed to find out whether or not she was warm enough in her heater-less home. Oops.
ReplyDeleteI hope she didn't think you were coming on to her!
ReplyDelete¿Caliente? ¡Brillante!
